There is a specific type of client who contacts me, well, I will not say I do not like it.They are usually between the ages of 35 and 50. They are well dressed, smell niche perfumes. Their LinkedIn profiles are the envy of their peers: rapid promotions, impressive titles, and a salary bracket that puts them in the top 5-10%. They have achieved everything they set out to achieve. And they are completely miserable. They sit in the chair and whisper the same confession: "I have everything I’m supposed to want. So why do I feel like I’m acting in a movie about someone else’s life? " In the HR world (and not only:-) ), we have a name for this: The Golden Handcuffs. You are paid too much to leave, but you are too empty to stay. We usually treat this as a symptom of burnout or a need for a vacation, or a change in role, you name it. I see it differently. You aren't burned out. You are simply stuck in your South Node.

The Compass of the Soul: The Nodes of the Moon

Standard career coaching focuses on what you are good at. It looks at your history.Vocational Astrology focuses on what you are here for. It looks at your "destiny". I put the quotes on purpose. I am not a big fan of "life course is a given" type of philosophy. To understand your purpose, we have to look at two specific points in your Natal Chart: The South Node and The North Node. Think of them as the magnetic poles of your life’s journey. They describe the arc of your development from "Who you used to be" to "Who you are becoming."If you are feeling stuck in your career, it is almost always because you are over-indexing on the South Node and neglecting the North. Not kidding you, it's almost always.

The South Node: The Resume (and the Trap)

The South Node represents your "Factory Settings." It is the accumulation of talents, habits, and skills that you brought into this life (or, if you prefer, that you inherited from your genetics and early environment). The South Node is your comfort zone. You are naturally brilliant at your South Node activities. You can do them in your sleep. You don't have to study them; they just flow out of you. Because you are so naturally good at these things, the world rewards you for them.

  • If you have a South Node in Capricorn, you are naturally responsible and authoritative. The corporate world pays you to be a Manager.
  • If you have a South Node in Libra, you are naturally diplomatic and charming. The corporate world pays you to be in Sales or Client Relations. And so on...

This is the trap. Because it is easy, and because it pays well, you spend the first half of your life leaning on this energy. You build your identity around it. You write your CV based on it. But the South Node is not your destination. It is your fuel tank. It is meant to support you, not define you. If you stay in your South Node for too long, it begins to rot. The "Competence" turns into stagnation. The "Ease" turns into boredom. This is why you can be the Senior VP of a company and feel dead inside. You have mastered the South Node, and your soul is screaming, "Okay, we did that. What’s next?"

The North Node: The Vocation (and the Fear)

Directly opposite the South Node is the North Node. This point represents your "Destiny". It is the direction your soul wants to grow. Here is the catch: The North Node feels uncomfortable. It represents energy that you are not naturally good at. It feels foreign. It feels risky. When you try to move toward your North Node, you feel like a beginner. You feel the "Imposter Syndrome."

The Client Example: I worked with a successful leader. His South Node was in Scorpio. He was a master of crisis management, risk assessment, and handling other people’s money. He was intense, private, and powerful. But his North Node was in Taurus.Taurus is the energy of simple, tangible creation. It is the Builder. It is the Farmer. Despite his income and career success, he was feeling depressed. Why? Because his soul didn't want to manage complex financial risk anymore. His soul wanted to build something real. He didn't need a better and higher role. He needed to buy a vineyard. The moment he started working with his hands, touching the earth (Taurus) and creating a tangible product, whole his life lifted. He was terrified to leave the big business world, but his soul was starving for the vineyard.

The "Axis of Evolution" in the Workplace

Your career dissatisfaction often stems from being on the wrong side of the axis. Here are a few common patterns I see in the corporate world:

The Leader who needs to Serve (Leo South Node -> Aquarius North Node)

  • The Trap: You are the star. You are the charismatic leader, the face of the brand. You are used to the applause. But lately, the spotlight feels lonely.
  • The Shift: Your growth lies in stepping back and empowering the group. You need to move from "The King/Queen" to "The Community Builder." You need to stop seeking recognition and start seeking collaboration.

The Diplomat who needs to Fight (Libra South Node -> Aries North Node)

  • The Trap: You are the ultimate team player. You compromise. You keep the peace. You are an excellent HR Director or Mediator. But you are exhausted from always putting others first.
  • The Shift: Your soul wants you to be selfish (in a healthy way). It wants you to be a Pioneer. It wants you to launch a solo venture where you call the shots and you take the risks, without asking for permission.

The Student who needs to Teach (Gemini South Node -> Sagittarius North Node)

  • The Trap: You are a data junkie. You collect certifications, facts, and details. You are a brilliant analyst or journalist. But you feel scattered and anxious.
  • The Shift: You need to stop collecting data and start synthesizing wisdom. You need to publish the book. You need to become the Mentor or the Philosopher. Stop asking questions and start giving answers.

How to Pivot (Without Blowing Up Your Life)

The terrifying thing about the North Node is that the market usually doesn't pay you for it—at least, not yet. You are an expert at your South Node (High Value) and a novice at your North Node (Low Value). This is why people stay in the Golden Handcuffs. They are afraid to be beginners again. As an HR Strategist, I do not recommend you quit your job tomorrow. That is reckless. Instead, we use the "Bridge Strategy."

Monetize the South, Invest in the North. Keep the high-paying job (South Node) for now. But stop treating it as your identity. Treat it as your Patron. Use the money it generates to fund your North Node training.

Job Crafting. Can you introduce North Node elements into your current role? If your North Node is Cancer (Nurturing/EQ), can you volunteer to mentor the junior staff or lead the wellness committee, even if your main job is let's say accounting (Capricorn South Node)?

The "Side Hustle" as Destiny. Start doing the North Node activity on the weekends. Not for money, but for energy. You will find that doing your North Node work recharges you, giving you the energy to survive the South Node day job.

Last thoughts

If you are wondering why you are dissatisfied, look at your Resume.Your Resume is a list of everything you have already done. It is a statue honoring your South Node. Now, look at your life. What is the thing that scares you, but excites you? What is the role you think you "aren't qualified for," but can't stop thinking about? That is your North Node calling. You don't have to stay in the factory settings forever.

You were designed to upgrade.
